Mpox, also known as monkeypox, is a growing concern in Africa, with cases skyrocketing. Earlier in 2024, monkeypox was declared a public health emergency by the World Health Organization.

Unfortunately, children under 15 seem to be the hardest hit, accounting for a large portion of cases and deaths. The most severe outbreak has been in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with new strains spreading to Burundi, Kenya and Uganda.

Symptoms include fever, body aches, and in severe cases, painful skin rashes and lesions, especially on the face and hands. If you have such symptoms, get medical help from your local clinic as soon as possible.
