
Oily history
The practice of oil pulling dates back many thousands of years as an ancient oral health practice. It’s simple: you swish oil in your mouth for several minutes to remove bacteria and improve oral hygiene.

How it works
When you swish oil around your mouth, it traps bacteria and toxins. Spitting out the oil removes these hygiene culprits before they can harm your teeth or gums.

Good oils
Coconut, sesame, and sunflower oils are popular choices for oil pulling. Coconut oil also contains lauric acid, which has natural antibacterial properties.

How to
Take 1 tablespoon of oil, swish gently for 10–15 minutes, then spit it into the bin (not the sink) and rinse with warm water. For your first few tries, you may not be able to manage 10 minutes, so attempt at least 30 seconds or 1 minute first. Do not swallow the oil!

Healthier teeth
Regular oil pulling may help reduce plaque, fight bad breath, soothe inflamed gums, and leave your mouth feeling fresher.

Dental care
Oil pulling isn’t mean to be a substitute for brushing or flossing. Use it as an extra step for excellent dental care, and always keep up with regular dental check-ups.
