Your heart is sending you a love letter, read on!

Hi, it’s your heart here. Just checking in. I want to say a sincere thank you for all those wonderful workouts you’ve been doing recently. Those walks. The stretches. Even those fun five-minute dance breaks, I’ve been loving them all. Much appreciated.

See, the thing is, I’m not just a symbol on Valentine’s Day. I’m a muscle. And like any muscle, I get stronger when you use me.

Oh… what’s that? You’re feeling a little under the weather and considering a break for a week? Well, sure… I mean, we all need a rest now and then. But just a friendly request: try not to completely fall off the exercise wagon, if you don’t mind.

Before you cancel your workouts for a quick break, let me explain what all that movement has actually been doing for us. I’ve become stronger and more efficient. And I am loving these benefits! And not just in a “thanks for thinking of me” way. I mean real, powerful, life-changing upgrades. Let me fill you in…

I’ve become stronger and more efficient

At the heart of it (lol, see what I did there?) I am a muscle. And like all muscles, I need regular exercise to function properly. When you’re active, the lungs work harder to get oxygen into your bloodstream so it can be pumped to all the body’s tissues and cells. So, thanks to your regular bouts of exercise, it’s like I’ve been hitting the gym too! Over time, I’ve actually become more efficient at my job. I don’t have to beat as often when you’re resting, so we’re saving energy and working smarter, not harder.

Blood pressure is doing much better

Our good old blood pressure says hi. And is also doing much better. With all that movement, your blood vessels have become more flexible. That means blood flows more smoothly, and your pressure stays in a healthy zone. Less pressure means less strain on me. (Thanks for that.)

    I’ve been expanding my network

Just think of it as body networking. While you’re creating networks in your career, I’m talking capillaries. These are tiny blood vessels that deliver oxygen to your muscles. The more you move, the more of these I create. Loving it, so keep moving!

Your heart loves fitness, here’s what it’s saying

You’re helping me prevent serious stuff

Thanks to all this regular exercise, we are improving our blood sugar, and reducing inflammation. These are culprits that could lead to heart disease. So, thanks to your regular workouts, you are helping me dodge these bad guys. Excellent work!

    You’ve improved our rhythm

With all this movement, your resting heart rate has dropped. That’s a good thing. It means I don’t have to hustle as much when you’re chilling. I get to take nice, easy beats, like smooth jazz on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Let’s get serious for a moment. Regular physical activity helps:

    • Lower LDL (bad) cholesterol
    • Raise HDL (good) cholesterol
    • Improve blood sugar control
    • Reduce chronic inflammation
    • Support healthy weight management

All of these reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease, including conditions like coronary artery disease and hypertension. Good to know: heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death globally. Exercise is one of the most powerful, low-cost preventive tools available.

    PS. Don’t ghost me now

One week off? Sure, take it. Listen to your body. But if that week turns into a month (and then three)… I start to decondition. I lose all the cool and healthy upgrades we built together. It’s like going back to dial-up after upgrading to fibre.

So even if it’s just a short walk, a few stretches, or dancing, keep me moving. You don’t have to be perfect. Just consistent (ish).

    With love,
    Your Heart
