1. Heartburn can usually be managed with over-the-counter (OTC) heartburn and acid digestion medication.
  2. Sit up straight and make a conscious effort to improve your posture.
  3. Instead of big meals, eat smaller, more frequent meals. Large meals put pressure on your stomach and make reflux more likely.
  4. Try to elevate your head by about 15–20 cm (using extra pillows or a wedge). This may stop stomach acid from flowing back.
  5. Quit smoking and cut back on alcohol.
