Get in girl, we’re doing skincare routines straight from your kitchen…
No, you don’t have to break the bank to get beautiful, healthy skin. Expensive products have their place, and we won’t say no if we win the Lotto, but you can also do a lot to glow up with easy, budget-friendly techniques. Let’s explore some ideas that are cost-effective and sustainable. Plus, you don’t have to venture further than your own kitchen or bathroom!
Beauty sleep is not a myth
The number one thing you can do in order to keep your skin in good condition is to get at least eight hours of sleep each day. Quality sleep is underrated. It helps to reduce stress, improves metabolism, and boosts your imunne system. Skin regeneration happens during restful sleep, so if you make anything a priority, it should be peaceful nights of rest.
Don’t forget your neck
You should be doing the same skincare regimen for your neck and ears as you do for your face because they see and get the same amount of sun and environmental exposure as your face. Watch for pimples and acne on your neck and chest area too, and take care of the sensitive skin here.
A fruity face mask
Don’t throw out that leftover fruit. Instead, mix overripe fruit like a mango or pineapple with yoghurt and apply the mixture as a probiotic-rich mask. The natural fermentation will help to boost your skin health.
Stop inflammation
The inside of a banana peel is a hidden skincare gem, packed with antioxidants, potassium, and vitamins that nourish your skin naturally. To use it, take a fresh banana peel and gently rub the soft inner side on your face in circular motions. Focus on areas that are prone to inflammation, dark spots, or dullness. Leave the residue on your skin for about 10-15 minutes to allow the nutrients to absorb fully, then rinse with lukewarm water.

Give your skin a break (sometimes)
Your skin withstands a lot of pressure each day, from pollution to environmental stressors, and even harsh weather conditions. It’s okay to have a skin “rest” day now and then. This doesn’t mean neglecting your skincare completely. Of course, you should still wash and cleanse your skin to maintain its health, but you can skip makeup for the day or take a break from heavy-duty creams and treatments. Let your skin breathe and rejuvenate naturally. Simple hydration and gentle skincare can do wonders for maintaining a healthy, balanced complexion.
Pimples, begone
Pimples and acne can strike, yes, even if you’re no longer a teenager! Dabbing a non-gel toothpaste (preferably plain white) on pimples overnight can help dry them out due to its drying and antibacterial properties. The key is to use a simple, non-gel toothpaste that contains ingredients like baking soda or hydrogen peroxide, which can reduce inflammation and absorb excess oil. Just be sure to do a patch test first to make sure your skin doesn’t react negatively or become overly irritated.
Exfoliate with sugar
Sugar isn’t just for coffee. It’s a hardy little exfoliant too. Mixing granulated sugar with coconut oil or any light oil you have at home creates a simple, DIY scrub that effectively removes dead skin cells. The sugar gently scrubs your skin skin, lifting away impurities and leaving behind a smooth, soft texture. Coconut oil, or any lightweight oil, adds moisture, ensuring your skin stays hydrated and nourished.
Your skin is your largest organ and it needs a good amount of tender loving care. Always research any skincare products before buying, and if you notice worrying side-effects, please stop using them immediately.
